v1 #1-18 (1968-1970)
Stan Lee launched the solo title The Silver Surfer. John Buscema was penciller for the first 17 issues of the series, with Jack Kirby returning for the 18th and final issue. The first seven issues, which included anthological “Tales of the Watcher” backup stories, were 72-page (with advertising), 25-cent “giants”, as opposed to the typical 36-page, 12-cent comics of the time. Thematically, the stories dealt with The Silver Surfer’s exile on Earth and the inhumanity of man as observed by this noble yet fallen hero. Though short-lived, the series became known as one of Lee’s most thoughtful and introspective works.
Following this series’ cancellation, Silver Surfer made sporadic appearances as a guest star or antagonist in such comic books as Thor, The Defenders, and Fantastic Four. Lee remained partial to the Surfer, and with Kirby collaborated on a seminal 1978 graphic novel starring the character.
v2 #1 (One-Shot)(1982)
The galactic herald returns in this jam-packed one-shot! Silver Surfer recalls happier times with the Fantastic Four. With Norrin Radd becoming a distant memory with each passing day, will Surfer ever recover the man he once was? Surfer returns to his homeland Zenn-La to find absolute devastation. A new quest begins for Silver Surfer- one that involves finding his soulmate, Shalla Bal!
v3 #-1-146 (1987-1998)
After the special one-shot Silver Surfer that was listed as volume 2, this second ongoing Silver Surfer series began in 1987. The longest volume of the Surfer’s history at 146 issues, we follow the Silver Surfer after his final escape from Earth and his return to the universe as a free spirit.
v4 #1-2 (1988)
Two-Issue Limited Series written by Stan Lee and drawn by artist Moebius under Marvel’s EPIC line. It reflects on the religious aspects of human nature and the harm that can be caused by blind religious faith.
Although the volume is labeled Volume 1, it is not to be confused with The Silver Surfer (1968). Collected in Silver Surfer: Parable.
v5 #1-14 (2003-2004)
A strange title, since the Silver Surfer’s alien likeness is being explored from the viewpoint of normal humans on earth. The series lasted for 14 issues in total.
v6 #1-5 (2011)
The sentinel of the spaceways walks the Earth once more, a stranger feared by many. Only the HIGH EVOLUTIONARY understands his true potential, but the Evolutionary’s mysterious grand design may cost the Surfer everything and change the cosmic balance forever! He’s traded blows with Thor and matched wits with Mephisto, but can the herald of Galactus survive the judgment of NORRIN RAND, the man within the Silver Surfer? It’s a character-defining epic showing the Silver Surfer as you’ve never seen him before, brought to you by “Planet Hulk” writer Greg Pak and “Dark Wolverine” artist Stephen Segovia.
v7 #1-15 (2014-2015)
An All-New Marvel Now series. The fourth ongoing series (volume 2 being a one-shot) for the silver warrior. In this series, Norrin Radd and earth-girl Dawn Greenwood explore the universe in all it’s magnificence! It lasted until issue 15 due to the events of Secret Wars, but returned with a new number one as Silver Surfer Volume 6 a few months later.
